WE ARE NOT TREES, WE ARE NOT ROOTS…
THE IMPORTANCE OF WHERE WE COME FROM
Our origins, the history of our family, are like the roots of a tree: they are essential, they support us and they give nourish to our identity. This is why it is important to know them and pass them along with the pride of owning them.
Just referring to this concept I am reminded of Vic Mastrogiovanni that Giovanni met on Facebook, some might think of a sterile contact, in reality this Social Media contact, generated a relationship that led Vic’s return to Orria, land of his ancestors and after him his niece and daughter, with their life partners, wanted know their origins.
This is what Vic wrote after a walk in Orria on his last journey:
“A beautiful, quiet evening walk in the ancient streets of Orria. The birth place of my grandfather. The most incredible village I have ever had the privilege of seeing. I lived with the Orrian people for 2 weeks. You cannot possibly understand the magnificence, or appreciate life there until you’ve walked the centuries old stone roads for yourself. I have truly lived a dream. Many tourists visit the same sights they can see in magazines, and the movies. To spend time in this little village is truly a beautiful adventure, from Lorenzo’s coffee bar, to the rolling mountains of the Cilento region. I wish I would have discovered it earlier in life. I would be living there today, in my retirement years, where living to be 100 is just the beginning”.
